Losing X Factor twin act Jedward whipped up a storm of controversy that ran to hate postings and death threats on Facebook. Now they appear likely to whip up a healthy bank balance.
Publishers are already shopping the Jedward book, reports the Times Online. No less than three publishing houses are in hot pursuit of the 18-year-old tone deaf singing act’s autobiography. It is even possible the book may be rushed to stores for Christmas and reap an astonishing £250,000 ($414,000).
Moving on to television – where they were discovered and where Simon Cowell likened them to his first experience of horror film The Exorcist – Jedward could be invited onto the Disney Channel to become TV presenters, the Times reports.
Industry experts say the Grimes brothers, John and Edward, could pull in £2million in the next year on what they have achieved so far as contestants on The X Factor. They have a tour next year, potential hair product endorsements and 100 private bookings that pay a minimum of £20,000.
The boys, who were the focus of thousands of viewer complaints, summed up the “can-do” ethic of reality television. They said: “We have to reinvent ourselves – it’s about doing it for all the fans because, without them, we wouldn’t have done as great as we have. We’re living our dream. We’re so amazed to be on stage and we’re staying focused on keeping the creative energy going.”
“Vocally” they were not on, said judge Dannii Minogue. But somehow, as entertainers – they very much were.
