Ryan Gosling has revealed that he sees his latest film, Blue Valentine, can serve as a ‘cautionary tale’ for complacent couples. He and Michelle Williams play a troubled husband and wife in the romantic drama. Gosling, 30, said couples should see it as it could help them save their relationships. “I think it’s the best thing for a couple to see, honestly. I’m not just trying to sell the movie. Well, I am trying to hawk the movie,” he joked to MTV. “If there is a problem in their relationship, they’re not able to look at it, and they’re caught in their own experience of it, there’s no dialogue about any of the bigger issues. “I think Blue Valentine is a cautionary tale about what can happen to love if you ignore it and you take it for granted. “I think that people can see the film and can see themselves in it or say, ‘How do we keep that from happening?’”
127 Hours star James Franco admitted he is up for the challenge of hosting the Oscars – although he never expected to get the gig. The actor will host the Oscars on February 27 next year and he is getting ready for his big role on the night. He told Entertainment Weekly: “Even if it was the worst Oscar show ever, there’s something about that I kinda like, too.” As for whether the 32-year-old thinks he will be nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in 127 Hours, James seemed skeptical. He added: “If I’m the host, it might cut down my chances because a host hasn’t won in 50 years.”
Jessica Alba has said that she finds it ‘flattering’ to still be considered beautiful. The 29-year-old actress made her film debut in Disney’s Camp Nowhere in 1994, and said that she is pleased to still be popular. She told Harper’s Bazaar, “I thought that was over and they’d moved onto someone else. It’s very flattering. You know, it helps being airbrushed and having make-up artists and hairdressers.” She added that motherhood has actually helped her to be less critical of her appearance. “I’m super-critical about myself when I’m looking at myself… Actually, I used to be a lot more critical of myself before I had my daughter, but now I just don’t really care that much. It just doesn’t matter,” she said.
Mischa Barton has revealed that she was bullied in school for being an ‘outsider’. The 24-year-old former O.C actress said that moving from England to the US when she was just five years old made her an easy target for other kids. She told Contact Music, “I think that’s why I grew up so fast and have always been a bit of an outsider. “I was in public school in New York where all the kids were in black jeans and Nike sneakers and I was wearing little stockings and Mary-Janes and perpetually getting my a*s kicked in my bottle glasses. “The kids around me at school had realised I was an actress and I started getting teased.” She added, “I wasn’t popular so it was easy to integrate me in and out without kids asking too many questions but then The Sixth Sense came out. I would have liked to have been popular. I would have liked to have not been on the periphery so much.”
Hollywood star Jessica Alba says becoming a mum has stopped her being “selfish”. The ‘Machete’ actress told Harper’s Bazaar magazine in Australia that being a mother to daughter Honor, two, has changed her outlook on life. The 29-year-old said: “I’ve learned to forgive myself for not being perfect and not stressing myself. “My daughter has put everything in perspective for me. “You stop being selfish and driven in such a narrow personal sense, and you want to build a life for yourself and your family.”
Sales of Jennifer Aniston’s fragrance have reportedly been less than impressive. According to Now, the 41-year-old Friends actress did ‘no promotion’ for her signature perfume, The Debut, and so sales have been slow. An insider said, “Jen chose her perfume. But other than launching it at Harrods in London, she’s done no promotion. “No-one knew where to find it and now everyone’s lost interest.” The scent’s producers have not commented, but the source added, “They’re bound to be disappointed. They can’t figure out why no-one wants to smell like Jen. “Marketing shows most people believe Jen smells ‘natural and clean’, which is the opposite of why you’d buy a perfume, so maybe that’s it.”
Former Friends star David Schwimmer is going to be a dad. The actor has confirmed he is expecting his first child with wife Zoe Buckman. A spokesman for the couple, who wed in June this year, told a US magazine they “couldn’t be more thrilled”. Schwimmer, 44, and Buckman, a photographer, met in London in 2007 and announced their engagement in March this year. The said “I do” just three months later in a small, private ceremony. Schwimmer spoke about his desire to become a father in 2006, but said he was keen to wait until the time was right. “I think it’s going to have to wait until I settle down and have a family,” he said. “It will happen when it feels right. Maybe part of me is waiting for myself to slow down a little and be ready to stay put.” Before meeting his current wife Buckman dated Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia and actress Mili Avital.
The bigger the star, the better the stalkers, eh? This seems to be the case for Lady GaGa since there was a rather interesting incident recently in which a woman actually managed to get passed the singer’s security during a show in at the O2 Arena in London and was heading straight for Lady GaGa’s dressing room before finally being stopped in her tracks. This is what a source said on the matter: “Gaga was understandably shaken by the incident but was a consummate professional and continued as per normal, putting on a dazzling show.” The show must go on… and Lady GaGa is definitely not one to disappoint her fans. Neither rain, nor sleep nor resourceful stalkers are going to stop her from her mission.
Hollywood beauty Amanda Peet says Northern Ireland has become one of her favourite holiday spots. The Gulliver’s Travels star and her husband, screenwriter David Benioff, took their baby to Northern Ireland during the summer and found it ‘very special’. “I know that Belfast doesn’t seem like a really hot travel destination, but we had a really wonderful time there,” she told a US newspaper. “We had our newborn baby and my husband was working on a show. I really loved Northern Ireland – it was very special.”
As the recent end of the X Factor season came and gone, judge Sharon Osbourne just had to share her impressions on finalist Cher Lloyd, especially now that she’s off the bench. This is what Sharon Osbourne had to say about Cher Lloyd: “I thought it was a fucking act. I like her and I think she’s a sassy little thing. But Cher knew what she was doing and she’s as fragile as I am. But she’s too young to be a diva – she hasn’t earned that right. Cher wants to be a mini Cheryl Cole. We’ve already got Cheryl – we don’t need Cher. And I wouldn’t put her in Amy Winehouse’s league. She hasn’t got the talent and individuality that Amy has.” Well, if Cher Lloyd ever wants to get that kind of individuality, there’s always somebody who has a little extra fairy powder… and Blake is probably a bit bored right about now too, since nobody’s talked about him in such a long time.
Reese Witherspoon has shown off her pet donkeys on US TV and told how her kids help clean up after them. She said: “This year we got donkeys. They’re really cute. That’s Honky and that’s Tonky. “They’re actually miniature donkeys. They’re called donks. They’re docile and sweet. “We have a friend who had one and we thought it was really cute.” Witherspoon told Ellen DeGeneres: “I have two pigs, three goats and 20 chickens. And of course I have three dogs. “And I have one horse. It’s hanging out with the donkey. It’s sweet. “And it’s so good for the kids to learn about animals and kindness and compassion. I make them clean the stalls.”
Fans all over the world should be really jealous of Europeans right now as Adele has announced the official line up for her tour dates. The singer is travelling to London, Paris, Madrid and everywhere else in Madrid. Adele’s overseas tour will kick off on March 21 in Oslo, Norway and will also be making concert stops in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, Ireland and the UK, with a wrap up on April 21 in London. Adele’s a great act to watch in concert so I highly suggest grabbing tickets to any of her shows. I want to go.
While we are on Adele topic, Jessica just released a new song titled “Rolling in the Deep”

Former Ugly Betty star Ashley Jensen said she could quite easily quit Los Angeles and move back to live in the UK. The 41-year-old Scottish actress has been living in LA since she landed the role of stylist Christina McKinney in Ugly Betty. She lives there with her husband Terence Beesley and their son Francis. She told Scottish newspaper Daily Record: “I could happily live in London or Scotland rather than in LA. It’s just that the work has been over there during the past four years. “But I won’t pretend that it isn’t sometimes difficult living in LA. I have to be careful what I say because it’s easy to offend people – on both sides of the Atlantic.” She added: “I made some flippant remark about not wanting my son to grow up with an American accent and the next thing I knew there were people in America suggesting I head back to Britain if I was unhappy at such a prospect.”
Now here’s something from someone who will certainly not be alone for the holidays. Ricky Martin has also shared his own male preferences with the rest of the world: “I love witty. I love mental strength. Just being secure. With all the stuff I come with, you have to be someone who is sure of himself. That turns me on. Somebody who is very sure of themselves without being arrogant – smart, witty, has a career. Somebody who is very open-minded about things. That’s what I love. Adventurous is the word.” Still some very steep criteria… but Ricky Martin has found his man so he needn’t worry. One must wonder how much semblance there is between the singer’s boyfriend and Indiana Jones.
Oprah Winfrey has been named the most charitable celebrity. The talk show queen topped The Giving Back Fund list after donating more than $40 million, primarily through the Oprah Winfrey Foundation. It helps causes including education and programs for women and children, according to a national philanthropic group. Novelist Nora Roberts came second, donating $4.45 million to the Nora Roberts Foundation to support literacy in underserved communities, People reports. Actress Meryl Streep, who gave $4 million to the Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts, was third. “There are many generous celebrities, but when you can top a list of celebrity philanthropists three out of four years, as Oprah has, that is saying something,” said Marc Pollick, president of The Giving Back Fund.
Jewish actress Winona Ryder has recalled her shock at Mel Gibson once calling her an ‘oven dodger’ at a party. The Black Swan star says she was horrified to run into Mad Max star Mel at a Hollywood party and hear his vile ‘anti-Semitic and homophobic’ slurs. She recalled her horror at his words – insisting his behaviour over the last few years leaves her feeling vindicated as no one previously believed he would have said such horrible things to her. Winona says Mel made a nasty homophobic joke in front of her gay friend – and then called her an ‘oven-dodger’, which she only later realised was a reference to the mass killing of Jews in gas chambers during the Holocaust. “I remember, like, fifteen years ago, I was at one of those big Hollywood parties. And he was really drunk,” Ryder tells GQ magazine in the US. “I was with my friend, who is gay. He [Gibson] made a really horrible gay joke. “And somehow it came up that I was Jewish. He said something about ‘oven dodgers,’ but I didn’t get it. I had never heard that before. “It was this weird, weird moment. “I was like, ‘He’s anti-Semitic and he’s homophobic.’ No one believed me!” A spokesperson for Gibson did not respond to calls for comment.
Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell have been working side by side on X Factor but it seems that their relationship is much more than a professional one. A source has revealed that the pop singer has actually moved into a new apartment in West London which is right next to the snarky judge’s mansion. The source said “She is over the moon to have a place that will be her safe haven in the UK. She felt lost in the Surrey mansion near Godalming, her former marital home, where she was too far away from her friends, her work – and from Simon… They are very close, so she is thrilled to be living near him and will be looking for a place to rent in LA that’s not far from Simon, too.”
Fashionistas Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian’s line with Bebe stores has ended for now – hot on the heels of their Dash boutique being slammed by The New York Times. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians stars may be losing their rule in the fashion world as their Bebe line comes to a close. An official statement for Bebe read: “We are very pleased with the performance of the ‘Kardashians for Bebe’ apparel collection and have immensely enjoyed our design collaboration with Kim, Khloe and Kourtney. They are terrific brand ambassadors and resonate really well with our clients. “Our original ready to wear agreement with the Kardashians began last February and will conclude with the upcoming Resort Delivery.” The announcement comes as Bebe president Emilia Fabricant revealed he was reconsidering their partnership. And yesterday the New York Times Critical Shopper column described the sisters’ New York Dash clothing store as a fashion ‘don’t’. Times writer Jon Caramanica wrote: “Dash is a fashion desert, just oodles of drippy cowl necks and embellished cap sleeves and synthetic fibres. “Clothes are essentially split into two categories of fit: vacuum-sealed and hot-air balloon.” He also described the ‘overpriced’ clothes as questionable at best.
Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg says he enjoyed The Social Network movie but that the only accurate part of it was his wardrobe. “I think that they got every single T-shirt that they had the Mark Zuckerberg character wearing right,” the 26-year-old billionaire told the 60 Minutes TV show. “I think I actually own those T-shirts. “And they got sandals right and all that. But, I mean, there are hugely basic things that they got wrong.” Zuckerberg told the show that film makers got wrong his motivation for setting up the smash-hit website. “They made it seem like my whole motivation for building Facebook was so I could get girls,” he said. “And they completely left out the fact that my girlfriend, I’ve been dating since before I started Facebook.”
It seems that the singer is putting the music off for a while and getting into some different areas of exploring her talents. Miley Cyrus is apparently going to be starting in a movie called “So Undercover” in which she will play a private investigator that gets hired by the FBI to go undercover in a sorority and she’ll get to have Kelly Osbourne as her sister there. This part will probably get Miley Cyrus doing a few things she hasn’t done in movies before. Hopefully she will manage to play a decently believable private investigator given that she’s just eighteen years of age and all.
